Negative observation of missing night shining clouds - 22.7.2012 at 00.45 - 22.7.2012 at 01.30 Ilmajoki Observation number 6456

Visibility Unclassified

Marko Myllyniemi, Lakeuden Ursa

For more than three quarters, I stared at the sky looking for possible illuminating night clouds, but to no avail. The sky was perfectly clear during the observation period, some stars were visible (e.g. the stars of the Summer Triangle).

Additional information
  • Negative observation
    • Negative observation of noctilucent clouds info

The negative observation of the noctilucent clouds is made in good conditions and with long enough duration (eg. 15 minutes or half an hour) with no noctilucent clouds visible.

The observation have to be made only in the visibility period of noctilucent cloud (May to August), and when the twilight sky dark enough (the Sun several degrees below the horizon), but when it is not totally dark.

During the observation you have to be sure, there is an open and wide enough view towards the visibility direction of the noctilucent clouds. Note, that in midsummer it is possible to see noctilucent clouds southward the zenith. With the open view take into account of both horizont obstructions and clouds.
