NGC 6842 - 8.11.2021 at 21.00 Imatra Observation number 102429

Visibility II / V

Rauno Päivinen, Etelä-Karjalan nova

The constellation of the fox has a planetary nebula NGC 6842 with a size of about 1 arc minute and 14 mag. I put together a HOO version of these with red H-alpha and blue and green OIII.

This is an planetary with an interesting shape and quite a lot of detail. The richly stretched negative shows a peculiar hazy part between 8 and 9 p.m., the peculiarity is that it seems to stand out more clearly in the OIII channel.

The first is the HOO version

Second OIII channel 30x600s, third OIII negative,

fourth H-alpha channel 24x600s, Fifth H-alpha negative

Planetary nebula is the remnant of a death star. It could be ring-shaped, disc-like or spread out rather irregularly.

With the exception of some nearest objects planetary nebulae have a small apparent diameter and they need a rather big instrument to be visible.
