Other storm phenomenon

30.9.2023 at 20.00 - 21.15 - Kaarina (II)
Mikko Peussa, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

From that cloud came a few small lanterns and a couple of lightning bolts, then froze. The dome of the Tuorla star tower is also faintly visible in the photo.

Rare halos

25.9.2023 at 15.24 - 15.37 - Turku (IV)
Mikko Peussa, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

Afternoon halos in a stack of 93 pictures. The first and last picture is a single frame. The black upper corners are the photographer's mistake, because the Samyang's lens hood was twisted open. Fortunately, it didn't fall completely to the ground. The horizon ring and upper concave Parry were visible, but not anymore when I had time to photograph. EDIT: I'll add Parry. Became more visible when I made a new BR.

Half-sky auroras

25.9.2023 at 01.00 - 02.05 - Turku (IV)
Mikko Peussa, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

At first, only a wide and diffuse arc was visible for a very long time, but then before two it flared up properly. This time I had to settle for shooting from the balcony because the car was in the repair shop. I have never photographed such a wide and bright scene from a balcony before. A 12-second timelapse (191 images) is a considerably sped-up clip from an hour. You can see how the arc develops slowly at first and finally the sky bursts into flames. The east side is in darkness from my balcony, but yes, there was enough to admire in this show of the west side this time.

One halo form

21.9.2023 at 18.10 - 18.20 - Turku (I)
Mikko Peussa, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

The side suns of the evening alternated from one side to the other with varying brightness. For a long time, they sometimes looked quite nice.

Aurora rays

19.9.2023 at 22.21 - 22.23 - Turku (III)
Mikko Peussa, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

One of the most special northern lights tours I've experienced. Just before these pictures, I was under the clouds in the rain on the outskirts of Turku and I was sitting in the car. A strong wind then blew the clouds away and the live show began almost immediately. The observation period is only 2 minutes, during which I took all these pictures. That highest beam rose really fast up to the zenith, where the Corona was also visible for a while. Such a two-minute session right after the rain is quite a coincidence and pure luck.

Half-sky auroras

18.9.2023 at 21.50 - 23.30 - Turku (IV)
Mikko Peussa, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

I photographed the northern lights in Rusko and Turku. At the same time, my old camera filmed a series by itself on the balcony at home. I put together such a quick (approx. 5 seconds) video from those pictures from 23:00 to 23:30 at the end.

Rare halos

18.9.2023 at 13.18 - 13.23 - Turku (IV)
Mikko Peussa, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

The halos of the day in a stack of 49 pictures USMattuna and BR processed. A triangle is a single square from the bottom of the stack. I also suspected Lowitz on the right side, but I leave it unmarked now as I'm too uncertain.

Auroras seen through breaks in the clouds

17.9.2023 at 01.30 - 01.40 - Rusko (III)
Mikko Peussa, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

Waiting didn't help. The clouds just hung in front from one hour to the next, but the statistical repos are now recovered.

Quiet aurora arc

14.9.2023 at 23.05 - 00.15 - Turku (II)
Mikko Peussa, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

In the Turku region, the sky opened a little late, but the wide aurora borealis was still visible when the cloud cover receded. I photographed Turku first from my balcony and then from the fields of neighboring Rusko.

Several halo forms

14.9.2023 at 16.05 - 16.55 - Turku (II)
Mikko Peussa, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

Afternoon halos. Another 46° tire was found in the small pile.

Volcanic/ash sunset

13.9.2023 at 19.50 - Nousiainen (IV)
Mikko Peussa, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

A peculiarly reddish sunset, apparently due to the dust of the Sahara. The sky glowed for five minutes in colors whose levels were seen sometime in the early 90s after the eruption of the Pinatubo volcano. Now let's emphasize that the colors of the picture have not been processed in any way, but the picture is straight from the camera. Only the sharpness has been slightly increased.

One halo form

13.9.2023 at 17.30 - Turku (I)
Mikko Peussa, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

Afternoon hello to statistics.

One halo form

10.9.2023 at 13.40 - 13.45 - Turku (I)
Mikko Peussa, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

Even a small stack of 55 pictures did not add value to the observation. The dull 22° tire became somewhat clearer. The second picture is a single square from the middle of the stack.

Rare halos

8.9.2023 at 12.18 - 12.24 - Turku (IV)
Mikko Peussa, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

The morning halos in a stack of 78 pictures, where I found that upper concave Parry, 46° underside arch and 46° ring. The other shapes were also distinguishable by the eyes. The upper dim 46° arc must be a ring because the Sun is above 32° altitude. Figure 1. Stack of 78 images + USM. Figure 2. Stack of 78 images + lighter USM and BR. Figure 3. Single square from the bottom of the stack.

Aurora rays

5.9.2023 at 22.55 - 23.05 - Rusko (II)
Mikko Peussa, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

The show was weak, but let's count these dim aurora borealis now. I don't mark the colors when I can't even see the whole aurora with my eyes like this.

Reflected sunbeams

5.9.2023 at 19.30 - 19.36 - Turku (III)
Mikko Peussa, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

The reflected cloud rays were visible for a long time. However, the series filming for the gif animation was too short, because I didn't make it to the shooting location in time.

Tertiary rainbow

2.9.2023 at 18.03 - Turku (I)
Mikko Peussa, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

Good rain in the direction of the Sun and to the left conditions for the third rainbow. 7 pictures quickly in the stack, a little USMaus and BR processing on top, so a clip of the third became dimly visible.

Several halo forms

25.8.2023 at 12.44 - 12.46 - Turku (II)
Mikko Peussa, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

I only managed to take ten pictures, but even with them I was able to test the new desktop computer and the newer version of Gimp for USMaus and BR processing. The triple and quadruple images are single frames. A dull 46° tire with BR treatment was found in Nelos. With the help of this small stack, the Horizon Ring and Sauri became better visible in the first and second picture.

Primary rainbow

24.8.2023 at 15.30 - 15.35 - Turku (III)
Mikko Peussa, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)
