Half-sky auroras

14.3.2022 at 01.20 - 01.50 - Taipalsaari (IV)
Roope Luukkainen

The biggest northern lights were what I have seen in the south since March 17, 2015 kp8 and October 7, 2015. It was worth going to the ice of the lake at night.

Starscape image

9.12.2020 at 21.24 - Taipalsaari (IV)
Roope Luukkainen

Taipalsaari's Sarviniemi has a nice light-free view to the north. In the sky facing south, light pollution from Lappeenranta glows. The whole evening was a dim and very low arc of northern lights.

Active aurora band

28.9.2020 at 00.47 - 00.54 - Taipalsaari (III)
Roope Luukkainen

For a long time, you can bongon the northern lights. The itching was that today the northern lights would be better visible than usual. 00.47 brightened quite nicely and pink was visible to the naked eye. The belt and arch were higher in the sky than is usually seen on Taipalsaari. But the finer ones have been seen. The camera clock is in winter time. Editing: image switching and animation. For a long time, having not photographed the northern lights, then, due to oblivion, succumbed to using too long a shutter speed that melted the details of the belt. Admittedly, there was no terribly detail...

Milky way

21.8.2020 at 01.15 - Savitaipale (IV)
Roope Luukkainen

With tracking and long exposures Milky Way description of companies. In the picture, five 5-minute exposures and ISO 800 are stacked. The darkest moment doesn't last long. Next, you need to plan the full Spectrum modulation of the camera.

Telescopic comet ATLAS

30.3.2020 at 02.10 - Taipalsaari
Roope Luukkainen, Etelä-Karjalan nova

Had to watch late to get to capture this comet from the moonless sky. Next opportunity only after a long time. For an awful long time, however, he couldn’t stand the frost and collect the exposures. It takes an hour and a half to pile up the equipment and put the guider to work. Edit: I added a gif animation of a comet.

Telescopic comet PANSTARRS

21.1.2020 at 21.17 - Taipalsaari (II)
Roope Luukkainen, Etelä-Karjalan nova

During the full moon, I first tried this to find this comet without success. Now the moonless sky was found. A strong wind and even stronger gusts ruined all the exposures, but luckily there were round stars left in one image.

Moon

1.10.2019 at 19.15 - Taipalsaari (III)
Roope Luukkainen, Etelä-Karjalan nova

I thought about hobbies for a long time and went to take a photo of a two-day-old sickle of the moon. Fortunately, the clouds on the horizon agreed to give way enough to get a few pictures. There have been unfortunate bad weather this autumn compared to the last couple of years, at least in south-eastern Finland. Has not yet been able to test the new monitoring platform after maintenance. The stand had to be disassembled and reassembled because the Chinese had tightened all the clearances in the grin and the ok pole orientation didn't work properly even for more than 10 sec. exposures.

Milky way

10.10.2018 at 23.00 - Ristiina
Roope Luukkainen, Etelä-Karjalan nova

The search for the dark sky continues. You can't find this darker sky south of Lake Saimaa. There was a clear sky, but there was so much fog that the visibility of the Milky Way was not the best. The small glow at the edge of the picture is not light pollution, but the glow of northern lights. There was a calm arc of northern lights and rays in the north at that moment.

Active aurora band

7.10.2018 at 20.30 - 23.30 - Taipalsaari
Roope Luukkainen, Etelä-Karjalan nova

At its best, the gauze was in the southern sky, but I mark you as an active belt. There was also a sar-arc in the zenith sometime around 8.30pm. And again later. Editing: an added image of the waves in the evening, which has now been identified as new forms of northern lights.

Milky way

10.9.2018 at 01.06 - Savitaipale (IV)
Roope Luukkainen, Etelä-Karjalan nova

I went to Savitaipale in the dark to photograph the Milky Way and visually see the ds objects with a 20cm dobson. The weather was unusually clear and the orbit was very visible. More timelapse animation later.

Starscape image

2.9.2018 at 22.30 - Taipalsaari (III)
Roope Luukkainen, Etelä-Karjalan nova

I had to visit to admire the first orbit of autumn. The astronomical darkness had not yet begun to exist before the rise of the moon. Hopefully next month is clear. A thick mist rose in the harvest opening, which brought a great deal more to the pictures. And maybe a little dimmed the Milky Way as well. The nature around was completely silent and the back of the fog glared at the large junipers in the felling hole, which in the dark looked like "figures".

Bright night shining clouds

23.7.2018 at 00.15 - 01.00 - Taipalsaari (IV)
Roope Luukkainen, Etelä-Karjalan nova

Bright and handsome night clouds were visible for about 40 minutes. At about one o'clock the clouds began to dim at a rapid pace. In the background, the spinner's song brought atmosphere.

Bright night shining clouds

15.7.2018 at 00.49 - Imatra
Roope Luukkainen, Etelä-Karjalan nova

Pretty bright night clouds were visible for a couple of hours across the sky. Great scenery was.

Active aurora band

6.5.2018 at 00.54 - Lappeenranta (III)
Roope Luukkainen, Etelä-Karjalan nova

The reposet was well visible although it was quite bright. Hundreds of logs shouted somewhere on the other side of the lake and spring smelled in the air. The video also captured northern lights thanks to a bright sky.

Active aurora band

14.3.2018 at 23.24 - Taipalsaari (III)
Roope Luukkainen, Etelä-Karjalan nova

Fortunately, the sky became clear even though the cloudiness looked bad at first. As predicted, handsome northern lights lit up and so a surprising amount of pink was visible in the south. Three times it brightened so bright that pink was visible. The really cold wind on the shores of Lake Saimaa really got my hands on the ice. A new location was also found on this trip. The challenge is brought by the moonless sky and the light-free landscape to northern lights photography. At first, use a long exposure so that the image is not underexposed. And for a little while as the northern lights brigh...

Quiet aurora band

15.2.2018 at 18.56 - Lappeenranta (II)
Roope Luukkainen, Etelä-Karjalan nova

Rarely is it not clear despite worse forecasts and northern lights also appeared. After a small show, clouds came and apparently that bigger northern lights didn’t come anymore.

Total lunar eclipse

31.1.2018 at 16.25 - 17.00 - Lappeenranta (IV)
Roope Luukkainen, Etelä-Karjalan nova

As a rather small sickle, the moon was rising and in about an hour it grew to full moon from it. The blue moment makes image processing awkward. Edit, another image as new

Half-sky auroras

8.11.2017 at 00.29 - Taipalsaari (IV)
Roope Luukkainen, Etelä-Karjalan nova

It was worth going back and luckily it became clear. These northern lights go inside the top vitonen. At best, the "waves" went halfway through the sky. Edit: animation added.

Quiet aurora arc

24.10.2017 at 22.55 - Taipalsaari (II)
Roope Luukkainen, Etelä-Karjalan nova

The fine arch was on a beautiful Finnish autumn night. I was expecting a finer screen, but probably only in the morning.

Milky way

16.10.2017 at 23.30 - Savitaipale (IV)
Roope Luukkainen, Etelä-Karjalan nova

Again, I went to Savitaipale in the darkness of Kärnäkoski to photograph the Milky Way in honor of a moonless and cloudless night (it has never been again). Compared to August, the Milky Way is already getting duller. You don't see such bright spots anymore. Next, focus on taking constellations with the js stand and Newton. #bongaalinnunrata
