Quiet aurora arc

Mikko Silvola

Lightened up a few times for a short while. Kirpsakka was freezing on the river bank.

Quiet aurora arc

20.11.2022 at 19.30 - 22.00 - Pyhäjoki (II)
Mikko Silvola

A faint aurora borealis, crisp freezing weather and comfortably Otava hit the end of the road. The red interlacings visible in the second picture are wind turbines. A big bird, maybe a swan flew quite close in the dark, I might have startled a little. #diffuusi

Lunar fogbow

13.11.2022 at 22.00 - 23.30 - Pyhäjoki (II)
Mikko Silvola

Once there was a clear starry sky after a long cloudy period. However, a fog rose on the river bank, which created a dimly visible fog arc.

Quiet aurora band

29.10.2022 at 00.10 - 01.30 - Pyhäjoki (II)
Mikko Silvola

A few short moments when the arc was even quite active, otherwise mostly aurora borealis. I also remembered the slippery beach stones very well and a couple of close friends liked the situation.

Partial solar eclipse

25.10.2022 at 12.10 - 14.10 - Raahe (III)
Mikko Silvola

The sun was a bit shy and hid its eclipse behind the clouds, but I still managed to grab a few pictures. I don't complain about cloudy weather, they bring a nice atmosphere to the pictures and some human shapes stuck in one picture. The first image that came to mind was the dancing marshmallow man from Ghostbusters.

Total lunar eclipse

21.1.2019 at 05.40 - 10.56 - Raahe (IV)
Mikko Silvola

I mean, the keys freeze in -28 frost. Fortunately, when I put on my wool pants, the saying "In Raahe always winds" was true again ... The eclipse was handsome and I enjoyed the sea ice until the moon disappeared behind the horizon. A few pictures grabbed the trip and here are a few on display.

Partial solar eclipse

11.8.2018 at 11.30 - 13.00 - Raahe (IV)
Mikko Silvola

Most of the time, the partial eclipse in Raahe was a complete eclipse due to the clouds ... Fortunately, there were sometimes a few holes in the fast-moving cloud cover, which allowed me to capture some images.

Total lunar eclipse

28.7.2018 at 00.08 - 01.22 - Raahe (IV)
Mikko Silvola

There’s been a bit of a longing for clouds this summer, except one night and it just happened to be just last night. Beach cats were running on the other side of the bay so live music was available throughout the shooting session :) In the cover photo, a combination of 4 images from dusk on the left, darkening into the night to the right.

Mirage

30.4.2018 at 21.40 - 21.55 - Pyhäjoki (III)
Mikko Silvola

I went to photograph the birds but I didn't get any bird pictures on the trip, instead I took a picture of the green flash. This has come many times after trying to capture the image, now though I didn’t think of the whole flash as I pointed the camera towards the sun until I noticed a green stripe visible on top of the sun. The phenomenon did not last long but I had time to grab a few squares from it. The flash at the time of the clock was about 21.45, apparently the camera clock was wrong.

Kangastus

15.4.2018 at 19.50 - 21.20 - Raahe (IV)
Mikko Silvola

During the spring trip to the seashore, spectacular weaving was seen both in the direction of the sea and when looking at the land. The forest edge shown in the pictures is less than 6 km from the scene and the windmills are considerably further away from several tens of kilometers. An icebreaker and a few ships behind it were also visible at sea. Two images of more color have thus been taken towards the sea where the setting sun colored the sky. The weaving visible on the edge of the forest and with the windmills changed its shape quite quickly and even disappeared for a while but then return...

Total lunar eclipse

31.1.2018 at 16.30 - 17.30 - Raahe (IV)
Mikko Silvola

From there, it erupted from behind the clouds, a little excited to see if the clouds had time to multiply, but then they disappeared completely. The fingers and toes froze despite the wool socks. There seemed to be ice anglers on the ice, so I dared to describe myself on the ice, although there seemed to be someone driving there.

Bright night shining clouds

14.8.2017 at 01.20 - 02.10 - Raahe (IV)
Mikko Silvola

I was photographing bottom bats and when the night got so dark that shooting bats became awkward, I switched to shooting illuminated night clouds. They were really handsome and bright as the thin Cloud Cover gave way to the north. No asshole happened to be visible last night, yes, it would have fit comfortably in the same box with the night clouds.

Mirage

14.11.2016 at 16.00 - Vihanti (IV)
Mikko Silvola

The super moon seemed lazy and didn't seem to be able to let go of the horizon, but it rose as if it had finally risen. For a long time it looked like the shape side, would it be due to the temperature layer of some sort? Well, the situation looked so handsome that it almost made me forget the cold, rather biting wind at the top of the udder.

Rare halos

16.6.2016 at 15.30 - Posio (IV)
Mikko Silvola

As we descended from the top of Riisitunturi, quite handsome halos appeared in the sky. Too bad I didn't have enough of a kick to climb back to the rice to shoot but I grabbed a few pictures from the path, although I probably wouldn't have reached the top because the best halo play in the afternoon would last a quarter.

Several halo forms

29.5.2016 at 01.45 - 03.30 - Raahe (II)
Mikko Silvola

Quite an impressive sun pillar in Raahe last night. My teeth were already washed but on the way to bed I noticed a handsome light phenomenon from the window and it didn't help but to go to the filming locations. From the Stellarium, I checked today that at the time of the first image, the sun was still more than 3 degrees below the horizon (the most reddish pillar). In the seagull image, the upwardly rising cloud rays seem to be visible, whether they are now called reflected cloud rays. As the sun rose, side suns were also visible but images of them were not captured.

One halo form

26.10.2015 at 20.00 - 22.30 - Pyhäjoki (I)
Mikko Silvola

Meinasipa is in a hurry to change car tires as a handsome halo squeaked in the sky. Well, I had time to get a picture before it started to harbor and the moon disappeared completely from view.

Total lunar eclipse

28.9.2015 at 04.56 - 06.23 - Raahe
Mikko Silvola

A blackout trip to the beach, one of the pictures happened to hit a star plane. There were no clouds in the Raahe region until after six.

Eye-catching night shining clouds

16.8.2015 at 00.30 - 03.30 - Raahe (V)
Mikko Silvola

No matter how insanely handsome the night clouds were last night, I hardly ever noticed as intense and appeared all night. At times, the tail of a firefly whispered in the sky as well as a few bottom flies that can be detected not only by the eyes but also with the help of an ultrasonic detector like the one on the way.

Clearly visible night shining clouds

8.8.2015 at 01.57 - Raahe (III)
Mikko Silvola

When returning home from the trip, spectacular night clouds had to be documented before unloading the car. The first ones for me this year, quite clearly were finally visible at this altitude as well.

Partial solar eclipse

20.3.2015 at 12.00 - Pyhäjoki (IV)
Mikko Silvola

Let's see this bonga. The light was really great during the deepest phase. The first image was hit by a reflection of a wave on the seashore.
