A fireball at night, brighter than the venus

12.9.2022 at 21.42 - Jyväskylä (III)
Harri Kiiskinen, Jyväskylän Sirius

The bright fireball was recorded in the image of the Nyrölä meteor camera. The flight time determined from the picture is 11 s, but in reality it is greater than this, because the initial flight was not recorded on video. About halfway through, the meteor split into two parts, one of which faded quickly.

15.8.2022 at 22.19 - 03.42 - Jyväskylä (II)
Harri Kiiskinen, Jyväskylän Sirius

Perseids are still visible, but clearly less than at the weekend. Last night, occasional cloud patches and a bright, shining Moon slightly hindered the observation. Edit 16.8.2022 at 21:00: Added GIF animation from 2:35-2:38 of the moving satellite.

Perseids

13.8.2022 at 22.40 - 02.48 - Jyväskylä (IV)
Harri Kiiskinen, Jyväskylän Sirius

Last night, the activity of the Perseids was even slightly higher than the previous night. Unfortunately, the moon slightly hinders the observations of the Watec camera. The weather forecast looks good for the coming nights as well, so the activity count continues...

Perseids

4.8.2022 at 23.17 - 02.15 - Jyväskylä (II)
Harri Kiiskinen, Jyväskylän Sirius

Same catch as a couple of nights ago . The observatory had a visual observation that coincides in time with the meteor observed at 23:17:59. Unfortunately, the brightest glimpse was behind the trees as seen from Nyrölä.

Perseids

18.7.2022 at 02.44 - 03.22 - Jyväskylä (I)
Harri Kiiskinen, Jyväskylän Sirius

Perseids are rarely seen anymore and the weather is also starting to affect the observations. Attached are the statistics calculated from the images of the Watec camera (pcs/h) and, for comparison, the total number of Perseids identified by the Watec camera and the GMN (Global Meteor Network) camera from the August observations. The direction and field of view of the cameras are different.

At least 10 lightning strikes seen

13.7.2022 at 17.00 - 17.30 - Jyväskylä (III)
Harri Kiiskinen, Jyväskylän Sirius

For the first time this summer, a thunderstorm front hit Jyväskylä and twice on the same day. I followed the arrival of the front in Nenäinniemi, from where there is a good view of Päijänte in the south. The picture crop from the first front (at 8:50 - 9:30) was quite unfortunate, only the last picture from that show. The second one was luckier in terms of photography (photos 1-4) and I followed the approach of the front at around 16:45 - 17:30, after which heavy rain drove the cameraman away. The catch is the first flash photos of the summer.

Sun

3.7.2022 at 12.35 - 13.00 - Jyväskylä (III)
Harri Kiiskinen, Jyväskylän Sirius

Despite the flaming of the tabloids, it didn't rain a drop in Central Finland, and there was no lightning at all. Instead of flash photography, the Sun again. The main image is a color image, with the material coming towards us colored in blue and the material flowing away in orange, using the deformation of the hydrogen absorption line (The Doppler-Fizeau effect). You can also see the direction of the Sun's rotation from the colors. On the edges of the puck, there are quite spectacular bumps.
