Jupiter

10.8.2022 at 03.30 - 03.45 - Kaarina (III)
Antti Taskinen, Joensuun Seulaset

The season of photographing the planets has started with the gas giants. It was nice to watch Jupiter's red spot roll into view despite the poor viewing. In the IR image (1st image) details were visible a little more in the traditional way.

Saturn

10.8.2022 at 01.30 - 02.00 - Kaarina (III)
Antti Taskinen, Joensuun Seulaset

The season of photographing the planets has started with the gas giants. Saturn looked really pretty despite the weak seeing. In the IR light (1st picture) the details were perhaps a little more visible.

Bright night shining clouds

6.8.2022 at 01.00 - 03.00 - Mäntyharju (IV)
Antti Taskinen, Joensuun Seulaset

These illuminating night clouds were really nice, although they were not visible in such a wide area as the night before and maybe they weren't quite as bright. There were also more normal clouds on the road. This time, the camera was allowed to take pictures for the timelapse animation from 1:05 to 2:51. The timelapses (2nd and 3rd picture) consist of 420 pictures, and the last timelapse (18 fps) is a crop of the first timelapse (24 fps) and with slightly different settings.

Bright night shining clouds

4.8.2022 at 23.30 - 03.00 - Mäntyharju (IV)
Antti Taskinen, Joensuun Seulaset

I followed the display of bright and sometimes even eye-catching night clouds throughout the night. The clouds were quite low under the Big Bear's paws, mostly limited to Bear Guard in the northwest and Ajomiehee in the northeast. Low clouds accompanied the show, but not to a disturbing extent. Shortly before 2 a.m., a bright cloud separate from the rest of the cloud complex appeared in the northwest direction, near Arcturus of Bear Guardian. The last clouds appeared around 3 o'clock. All in all, it was a really great show and birthday present!

Hyvin heikkoja yöpilviä

3.8.2022 at 00.45 - 01.00 - Mäntyharju (I)
Antti Taskinen, Joensuun Seulaset

Very faint night clouds were just visible to the naked eye in a small area low in the north. In the pictures, they can be seen just above the tops of the trees in the right half of the pictures.

Clearly visible night shining clouds

2.8.2022 at 01.10 - 01.50 - Joensuu (III)
Antti Taskinen, Joensuun Seulaset

Illuminating night clouds were visible this time in the low northeast and east direction, the coverage was estimated to be less than 1/8th of the sky. Their brightest parts could perhaps have been classified as bright, but I'll leave them clearly visible as a whole. Normal clouds once again covered most of the sky in Joensuu and slowly rolled in front of the night clouds as well.

Noctilucent clouds visible between clouds

1.8.2022 at 01.20 - 01.30 - Joensuu (III)
Antti Taskinen, Joensuun Seulaset

The bursting of illuminating night clouds in the water rain. Faintly illuminating night clouds were visible low in the northwest, where there was a small gap in the cloud cover.

Primary rainbow

29.7.2022 at 18.30 - 18.45 - Joensuu (III)
Antti Taskinen, Joensuun Seulaset

Beautiful Rainbows were visible in the sky for a quarter of an hour after a heavy downpour. In addition to the bright main rainbow, a side rainbow and an interference arc on the inner edge of the main rainbow could also be seen. This was probably my first observation of interference arcs, they have managed to avoid me for a long time. The first picture corresponds quite well to the visual perception. The second (overprocessed) image is the result of strong use of Lightroom's dehaze function, which nicely brought out the interference arc and also Alexander's dark zone between the main a...

Bright night shining clouds

23.7.2022 at 00.30 - 01.50 - Joensuu (IV)
Antti Taskinen, Joensuun Seulaset

Pretty and fairly clear night clouds in the northwest and north direction. Far to the north, below the night clouds, a thundercloud passed, whose lightning could sometimes be seen and heard. A special atmosphere.

Clearly visible night shining clouds

7.7.2022 at 00.55 - 02.25 - Kouvola (III)
Antti Taskinen, Joensuun Seulaset

The first illuminating night clouds I noticed of the summer eventually spread over a relatively large area of the sky in a sector roughly extending from northwest to northeast. They contained a variety of fine shapes (at least in the opinion of an amateur), some even reminded me of small mammoths (second picture). Finally, a panorama of six vertical images, the others are single shots.

Pollen corona

11.6.2022 at 21.20 - 21.30 - Joensuu (III)
Antti Taskinen, Joensuun Seulaset

The pine pollen was meant to be photographed. As I drove to the scene, I already had time to annoy the clouds gathering around the sun. However, they proved to act nicely as a cover, and the underside of the pollen appeared handsomely against the dark clouds before it disappeared as the sun went completely into the cloud.

Sun

20.5.2022 at 13.30 - 14.30 - Joensuu (III)
Antti Taskinen, Joensuun Seulaset

One large and handsome comma group AR3014 and many smaller ones were visible in the sun. I took a close-up of that biggest and also an overview of the whole sun. Seeing varied a little between the right and the very foggy, I tried to capture the clearer moments in the videos.

Sun

20.4.2022 at 12.25 - 13.00 - Joensuu (III)
Antti Taskinen, Joensuun Seulaset

It was a good time to watch the Sun again. There had been a change from yesterday in the comma groups 2993 and 2994 (Fig. 1). For fun, I tried to shoot the entire Sun through the UV and L filters as well as the IR filter. In Figure 2, the shots are side by side in the order of UV, L, and IR from left to right. Under UV light, the light areas of the surface stand out best.

Sun

19.4.2022 at 11.30 - 12.00 - Joensuu (III)
Antti Taskinen, Joensuun Seulaset

The lunch break went while watching the handsome sunspots. It will be interesting to follow these developments in the coming days. The first in the close-up is the comma groups 2993 and 2994. The second is a panorama of the two images of the whole Sun, which also shows a couple of small dots 2990 and 2991 in the middle stages and 2992 already almost hidden in the lower right.

Sun

31.3.2022 at 10.50 - 11.40 - Joensuu (III)
Antti Taskinen, Joensuun Seulaset

I tuned the telescope into the yard during a lunch break to watch the Sun. There were spots of all sizes and shapes in sight. The first two images are close-ups of the largest comma clusters, the latter of which just fit in the image field of the camera (ASI290MM). Third is the view from the whole star (camera Canon 7D MkII).

Zodiacal light

22.3.2022 at 20.30 - 21.30 - Rääkkylä (III)
Antti Taskinen, Joensuun Seulaset

I went to see the Zodiac Light. The seagulls roared non-stop on a dark lake. Spring comes!

Active aurora band

21.3.2022 at 21.15 - 23.35 - Lieksa (III)
Antti Taskinen, Joensuun Seulaset

On the side of the Finnish Meteorological Institute, the activity of the magnetic field seemed almost zero, but nevertheless pretty northern lights appeared in the sky. When it got dark at 9:10 pm, I already noticed some greenery and redness in the low northern sky in the photos, but I mistakenly thought it was airborne at first, because even in the photos it was visible in other directions. Gradually, the colors in the north brightened so that northern lights could be seen with the naked eye from about 10 p.m. The brightest fires were at 11 p.m. The first image shows the situation at 11.05pm ...

Zodiacal light

21.3.2022 at 21.15 - 22.00 - Lieksa (III)
Antti Taskinen, Joensuun Seulaset

I went under the dark skies of Lieksa to study the visibility of the zodiac light. Just over a year ago, the conditions were so good that the backlight (gegenschein) and the zodiac ribbon also stood out in the pictures (the observations of the Sky Watcher 96590 and 96729 ). This time, too, the backlight is visible below the Lion, and I think the dim zodiac ribbon is also conceivable, although it may not stand out all the way as clearly as last year. Did the conditions then have been better a year ago. As you can see from the picture, there was quite a lot of air glow this time. However, visual...

Quiet aurora arc

16.3.2022 at 23.30 - 00.30 - Kuusamo (II)
Antti Taskinen, Ursa (Itä-Suomi)

A holiday trip to Kuusamo comfortably served the events of heaven. After the sauna, I noticed a green arc in the shallow northern sky as I visited the balcony. After getting on the ice with a nearby lake, the arc had dimmed, but it brightened and activated for a moment before it finally faded. 13.3. after the spectacle, these northern lights seemed rather modest. However, the observation is out of sight. :-)

Several bright halo forms

15.3.2022 at 13.00 - 15.30 - Kuusamo (III)
Antti Taskinen, Ursa (Itä-Suomi)

A holiday trip to Kuusamo comfortably served the events of heaven. During the ski run I noticed several halos, of which the side suns and the arc of the zenith environment in particular were really bright at times. There was no better recording medium than a cell phone camera. The other halos did not seem to be momentary.
