Aurora rays

12.8.2022 at 00.04 - 00.40 - Helsinki (I)
Pentti Arpalahti

Now it was a funny repossession. The sky was hazy but cloudless and there was still a slim chance of catching a few little vyp near the horizon or at least making a satisfactory nega. In the edit, I set the handles in the best positions for non-existent vypps and applied the same adjustments to the entire folder. In the picture of the northern view, I knew that the orange outside light would cause an annoying big spot in the middle of the lower edge, but what the hell are the green streaks in the picture? Aurora Borealis! More dim gauze was then found in the vypnega inspection photos of the se...

Noctilucent clouds visible between clouds

11.8.2022 at 03.10 - 03.25 - Helsinki (III)
Pentti Arpalahti

When the observation window after three was still open from the right edge, some gaps and thinnings appeared in the lower clouds. Fortunately, the openings moved quite quickly. The slanted ridge in the northeast of the main photo visually stood out from the mountain due to its shape, so I snapped a total of 20 photos from that direction. With exposure times of three and four seconds, the faster moving clouds blurred, but the streaks remained sharper. The white balance setting 3773 K compensates for the brown color. The lower clouds were in many layers and of many shapes. Even the cloud holes w...

Dim night shining clouds

9.8.2022 at 23.18 - 00.05 - Tallinn (II)
Pentti Arpalahti

I wandered out onto the deck, glancing to the north, probably at the right moment, when already after midnight the show had faded to faintly distinguishable on the edge of the horizon. Edit. I updated the illustration. The paws of a big bear stood out from the pictures, based on which the vyp area was between northwest and north with a width of 40 degrees and a height of approx. 10 degrees at the beginning of the presentation. In the end, the area shifted towards the northeast.

Negative observation of missing night shining clouds

9.8.2022 at 00.05 - 00.52 - Helsinki
Pentti Arpalahti

A negative check of just under an hour after midnight is a bit dull when the observation window is open longer. I couldn't bring myself to check the lowest horizon in the northeast. However, the sky was very dark and clear. Even the repos didn't have time for the observation period. Vypit remains so low in the south that the negative season is actually over now without the zero horizon.

The northern lights took little attention. And there was no negavy pöyok either, even though we didn't get a photo together. I went to photograph the roofs and treetops of the last-minute vyps. The observation is less often successful from a height of two or three degrees when the morning is already gradually dawning. The air was really clear and the sharp-edged belts too.

Aurora rays

8.8.2022 at 00.34 - 01.03 - Helsinki (III)
Pentti Arpalahti

Dim rays high up. Edit. First there were dim strips to the height of Otava and then the storm started, more pictures to come. Edit 2. There were clearly three stages to the show. First, high variegated rays. Next, the green belt with rays woke up. At the end, the dimmer arch gradually got higher. The arch stretched from west to northeast.

Negative observation of missing night shining clouds

7.8.2022 at 00.21 - 01.33 - Helsinki
Pentti Arpalahti

In the south, it seems that the water supply pipe broke. There were no clouds in the sky, no aurora borealis, no shooting stars... I tried to climb the hill of desperate observation as much as possible and with a terrible search I found something streaking, but there was not even a small wave. There must be a limit to even a miserable observation. After half past two, while editing, I blinked to the north from the window for an hour, but nothing appeared there. There might have been some possibilities a couple of hundred km further north. Has anyone had a camera to crack?

Dim night shining clouds

6.8.2022 at 00.35 - 01.15 - Helsinki (II)
Pentti Arpalahti

At midnight I checked the north and northeast: nothing. The first cautious promise was in the north at 0:22. Actual sighting in the north at 0:35. The Vypi gained altitude by a few degrees at 0:50. A belt appeared in the northwest at 0:58. After all, a statistical case would have been obtained by taking a rasp from the window at 1:15. The upper edge of the night clouds reached approx. 5 degrees. These are the last shows of the season here.

In the north, the belt. Edit. At 11:36 p.m., the belt was first seen directly in the north from the window at a height of 5 degrees. Outside, the belts and gentle waves until 0:06 were also at a height of 5 degrees and the width was 30 degrees on both sides of the north. It makes up approx. 0.5% of the corners of the celestial hemisphere, i.e. a very small area. At 0:57, the northern sector had moved a couple of degrees higher (picture 4).

Belts and waves in the north. Edit. Waves, waves, waves. I even suspected at first that the normal clouds were playing tricks and developing fake waves when the waves were dim. The vertical whorls on the left side were clearly distinct. There were normal clouds ahead, but not so much that they would have prevented us from seeing the show bounded between the north and northeast. The height was hardly more than 15 degrees, so the presentation was clearly less than 1/8 in scope.

Hyvin heikkoja yöpilviä

3.8.2022 at 02.54 - 03.19 - Helsinki (I)
Pentti Arpalahti

I made a full round of observation sites of different wind directions in the middle of the night without results. Even when planning to go to the night tree, you still had to look if there was any noise. Tero Sipinen had managed to dig out an observation from the previous (miserable) night's material. It was last night, but when the setup was ready on the window, you can quickly take a check picture. From the northwest to the north, the sky was split by a long shadow. At least it's a good color reference. What are those white lines on the left side of the picture? Soon to better places...

Hyvin heikkoja yöpilviä

1.8.2022 at 01.00 - 01.17 - Helsinki (I)
Pentti Arpalahti

It would have been great for negative perception, but when searching for images, the negative attribute had to be removed from the folder name. In the last inspection pictures, a few streaks were found very very low. I already took the second picture at 11:13 p.m., but it is too uncertain to observe, when the smoke from the district heating pipe can blow to the same place. However, in other pictures, there did not seem to be any smoke coming from the pipe. The positive observation of the north fell between 1:00 AM and 1:17 AM. The screen shot is a demo of air clarity and night darkening.

Bright night shining clouds

30.7.2022 at 23.32 - 01.02 - Helsinki (IV)
Pentti Arpalahti

Samples from the beginning of the show before midnight. At 23:32, the first belts stood out in the north. At midnight, between the northwest and the north, belts and waves arose. While monitoring the situation in the narrow sector in the north at 0:20 a bright belt raft rose. The potential seems to be attention-grabbing. Edit. I think we're getting to the stage where the display gets lower as the viewing window widens. The top edge of Figure 5 is at a height of 20 degrees. At 0:34 the handsome raft did not rise any higher as the clock approached one and after that the upper edge started to...

Clearly visible night shining clouds

30.7.2022 at 00.26 - 03.48 - Helsinki (III)
Pentti Arpalahti

For Tampere's Ursa northwest camera, the sky was clear and based on the light streaks, I glanced out the window (picture 2). There were already vyps in the opening to the northwest. The sky was open for ten minutes from the west to the north, after which the northwest began to be covered. Figure 3 is the largest sample of the play before one. The eastern sky was somewhat blocked at that point. Nothing was visible in a few small crevices. I took the pictures from 0:26 to 0:54. In Figure 5, I practiced calibrating the horizon of the observation site. The night clouds rose to only 15 degrees....

Bright night shining clouds

28.7.2022 at 23.06 - 03.48 - Helsinki (IV)
Pentti Arpalahti

A big show is coming, northwest-north at least > 20 degrees. Edit. It didn't really get big, but very beautiful and fine-grained. Already at 11:40 p.m., the show was dominated by a bright winding belt, around which strips of gauze reddened by the lights of Rusko and the city were wrapped around. The display as a whole stretched from west to north (Figure 8). When the height of the display was less than 30 degrees, the extent did not exceed an eighth of the sky. To the east I could see nothing. I filmed the screen for 6 min. past midnight. Watching the situation from the window, the normal ...

Clearly visible night shining clouds

25.7.2022 at 01.56 - 02.33 - Helsinki (III)
Pentti Arpalahti

There were clouds in the north view of the window and the sky was only slightly open in the northwest, but there were nice streaks in Tampere's northwest camera. Outside, it appeared that the northwest was the best open. In Vartti, the northwest and the horizon spread even further. The display was between northwest and north. Nothing could be seen from the northeast to the east and west. The best moment was at 2:20 a.m., when one belt of the fan, consisting of long belts that were dim in themselves, reached the zenith. Pola still didn't bite very well at that point, but the experiment ...

Clearly visible night shining clouds

Pentti Arpalahti

It would seem to start a little bigger for a change. Edit. It was a good show, but the normal clouds did not actively participate in it. The start looked good. Nice presentation in arc zones, through which a long spike plunged. As the day changed, fast western clouds covered everything. At half past one, a bright wave could peek through a gap in the clouds. The presentation of the main picture at 23:45 was almost completely covered.

Dim night shining clouds

22.7.2022 at 00.50 - 02.21 - Helsinki (II)
Pentti Arpalahti

Low exposure, I took two shots at 1:06. The main picture shows more details and the second picture shows the whole show. Through the window, the night clouds were separated by 0:50 in the north, and from the window they were separated by another 1:26. The air was foggy, but fortunately there were not too bad normal clouds on the horizon. Quite a nice wave-winning little show at less than ten degrees. Images adjusted to be brighter than the visual perceptual equivalent. Edit. The show went on longer. From the window to the northern sector, the ends of the belts could be seen after two (picture ...

Dim night shining clouds

21.7.2022 at 02.36 - 03.18 - Helsinki (II)
Pentti Arpalahti

It was the hardest observation of the season. First negative and then positive. I went through the east-west observation points from midnight until a little past one, and after 25 thoroughly scanned check images, I was already pressing the send button of the negarapsa, when I somehow glanced at Tampere's northwest camera just to be sure: there was some white line low down. The observation window would be open for another couple of hours and I left again for the northwest observation site. The eye distinguished something between the northwest and the north, and then just started to photogra...

Dim night shining clouds

A loose belt in the north and northwest. Edit. Well, it's a good thing that the air is clear when the screen is small and dim; describes epically bright scenes even through dark clouds. There were belts and loose threads in the north, but not in the northwest or northeast either.
