Mikko Ankelo, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

From the spring starry sky in the Parainen archipelago. The constellation of Scorpio is sinking above the horizon in the morning. The red color of the Antares star is spectacularly reflected on the surface of the water. The lower parts of the Milky Way are also clearly visible.

"Mandatory" observation in the spring and winter. That's where it shone above the sea in a familiar way this year as well. Easily visible visually.

Milky way

8.11.2021 at 19.29 - Uusikaupunki (III)
Mikko Ankelo, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

Milky Way and glow. The sky was pretty light due to the glow of the air, which was a fair amount this time. The landscape looked brighter to the eye than on a normally moonless night. The sea is different every day and the same can be said of the starry sky. The starry sky is a little different every night; there is glow in the air, northern lights, moonlight, etc.

Jupiter and Saturn shine a race in the southern sky. There is already a small hint of the Milky Way as a sign of the approaching autumn.

Clearly visible night shining clouds

Illuminating night clouds in the outer archipelago. Conditions were more than right; warm and calm late summer night. And best of all, the mosquitoes shone with their absence. :)

Milky way

16.4.2021 at 00.30 - 03.45 - Brändö
Mikko Ankelo, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

The Milky Way, the setting moon and the historic fish houses of the outer archipelago of Brändö, the ingredients for this kind of panorama. In the third picture, the morning is already making a strong arrival, but the milky way is still visible.

Zodiacal light

2.3.2021 at 20.40 - Pyhäranta (IV)
Mikko Ankelo, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

Panoramic view of Rihtniemi bird tower. The zodiac light was also well visible visually. Weak reposting in the northern sky.

The bird tower was allowed to act as a "star tower" for observing the encounter of the Pleiades and Mars. Bird towers are also great places to admire the starry sky. When walking to the tower, you just have to remember to keep the lights on in the headlamp and be careful on the stairs so you don't see any more stars :)

Have time! Already driving to Pyhäranta, I blinked anxiously into the northern sky. The clouds rolled slowly but surely to the south. The purpose was to take a panoramic view of the starry sky with the zodiac light. When I got to the beach, I barely had time to take a few pictures and it was there, the clouds covered the sky. Familiar situation for a starry sky photographer. The larger spectacle spectacles were now forgotten, but it was evident that the light shone there as in previous years :)

Mars

16.10.2020 at 22.58 - Uusikaupunki
Mikko Ankelo, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

The clear sky and Mars shine bright. During the opposition, you have to take every opportunity to shoot :)

Mars

10.10.2020 at 00.05 - 01.45 - Uusikaupunki
Mikko Ankelo, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

Mars photographed from a holiday of clouds. The bad weather continues, but the new camera had to be tested. Poor seeing has plagued at least this region throughout the fall. I don't know if the exceptionally warm sea right next door was to blame for the bad weather. At least elsewhere in Finland, good pictures have been taken at the same time as there has been an invalid weather here. Good seeing may not always be as widespread a phenomenon as I have imagined. The situation can vary quite locally.

Milky way

27.9.2020 at 03.53 - Uusikaupunki (III)
Mikko Ankelo, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

Morning Milky Way in the archipelago. The stars are excitedly reflected in the non-existent ponds of the rock depressions. All in all, a great night overall.

Orion's star pattern, which looks like the winter sky, is already high in the morning sky. Summer is over and we are moving towards winter at a brisk pace despite the warm weather. If you bother to touch your knees with a rune along the cliffs, then in low winds the ponds of the archipelago get spectacular reflections of the star patterns :)

Mars

16.8.2020 at 04.15 - Uusikaupunki (III)
Mikko Ankelo, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

For a long time attacking planetary photography. This time the target is Mars. Just over three years away from the last description and I notice that well. Pretty sticky rap, but something was accomplished. Keli was a similar flutter to what we were three years ago :). The camera was still an old blue cube, but a better one would probably need to be upgraded for years to come.

Milky way

22.4.2020 at 01.00 - 03.30 - Ahvenanmaa
Mikko Ankelo

Spring Milky Way from the northern outer archipelago of Åland. The magnificent spring night provided a wonderful experience as the Milky Way curved in the eastern sky from southeast to northwest, where Venus also sank, leaving a fine bridge to the surface of the water. Light pollution in the Turku region cannot escape here either. As the morning rush creeps into the sky, the Milky Way appears in all its glory as the upper parts of the Sagittarius constellation sweep over the horizon. This is not really the view of the lower Finnish sky. The triangle image is a body of the lower parts of the Mi...

Zodiacal light

20.3.2020 at 21.00 - 22.00 - Pyhäranta (IV)
Mikko Ankelo

We went to Rihtniemi to admire the northern lights and the zodiac light. At the same time, I decided to patch the gap that was noticed last time. I was happy with the picture, but something essential was missing; people from the tower. Now the loved ones were tipping into the bird tower and I let the camera crack in exactly the same places as last time. The repos were also more visible. The Zodiac Light, the Milky Way, Venus, all shone in their familiar places.

Starry sky panorama from Rihtniemi in Pyhäranta part 2. A few weeks earlier I photographed the panorama from near the bird stage, now it was the turn of the bird tower. The zodiac light looked nice as Venus shone bright. A thin northern light gauze appeared to decorate the northern sky. Great evening overall.

Zodiacal light

25.2.2020 at 20.05 - Pyhäranta (III)
Mikko Ankelo

A panorama of the starry sky from the tip of Rihtniemi in Pyhäranta. The zodiac light shines together with the Milky Way and Venus. The storm of the previous weekend and the high water had driven large piles of fragility and reeds far to the beach. The power of the sea is impressive by the outer sea. The lights on the horizon are the flashing signs of the fairway leading to Rauma. The light of the Kylmäpihlaja lighthouse shines on the right side.

Zodiacal light

21.2.2020 at 19.50 - 20.45 - Pyhäranta (II)
Mikko Ankelo

The zodiac light has played hard to achieve this winter. Visually, it has been almost impossible to perceive the conical shape of the object, no matter how dark a place it has gone. The time should be very good now. However, it somehow makes the camera cell stick. Poor visibility may be due to Venus shining bright in the same direction. A bright subject nearby destroys the contrast to the background sky and makes it difficult to see the dim glow.

Zodiacal light

24.1.2020 at 19.00 - 19.30 - Pyhäranta (II)
Mikko Ankelo

The zodiac light slowly begins to shine in the evening sky. It’s not very spectacular yet, but brightens towards spring, being at its best in March.
