Half-sky auroras

13.10.2021 at 00.30 - 01.00 - Inari, Turvejärvi (IV)
Jorma Mäntylä

The northern lights in Inari were so handsome that I went to the shore of Lake Turvejärvi at night to see and photograph. In the sky, a circular oval orbited the North Star. It varied in color and shape. On a calm night, it was reflected on the surface of the lake.

Half-sky auroras

12.10.2021 at 20.00 - 22.35 - Inari, Turvejärvi
Jorma Mäntylä

The sky became clear in Inari along Sevettijärventie and handsome northern lights flashed in the sky. The colors also stood out. The road to the Arctic Ocean was greenish in the light of the northern lights. EDIT: The Northern Lights show improved even more in Inari. I went to the shore of Lake Turvejärv, and there came really nice pictures.

Auroras seen through breaks in the clouds

10.10.2021 at 22.30 - 23.00 - Inari, Turvejärvi (III)
Jorma Mäntylä

Northern lights were visible in Inari as the proton flux in the Sun accelerated. The show would have been handsome, but the fog and cloudiness bothered me. A few successful pictures still came.

Milky way

29.8.2021 at 23.20 - 23.30 - Kangasala, Sahalahti (IV)
Jorma Mäntylä

There have been no northern lights in the south despite forecasts. The Milky Way, on the other hand, has sparkled handsomely when the Moon hasn’t risen too high. Of these on Sunday night.

Perseids

13.8.2021 at 00.15 - 02.05 - Kangasala, Sahalahti (III)
Jorma Mäntylä

Whether bright and beautiful Starry Night for observing Perseids. Unfortunately, not many star flights were seen and a few observed were dim. The camera took 220 pictures in a series of shots, four of which found Persides. There are two of them in one picture.

At least 10 lightning strikes seen

1.8.2021 at 16.15 - 17.00 - Kangasala, Sahalahti (IV)
Jorma Mäntylä

I had quite a thunderstorm. The water came 15 mm in half an hour and the flash trigger dropped 15 flashes. The rain was so heavy that the camera was under the terrace canopy leaving the angle of view small. One image was struck by lightning.

Dim night shining clouds

16.7.2021 at 00.50 - 01.10 - Kangasala, Sahalahti (II)
Jorma Mäntylä

Again, on the darkest moment of the night, I went along the forest road to see if there were illuminating night clouds. There were, but weak. Only in the western sky, a little illuminating night clouds were visible around the Bear Guardian star Arcturus. Later, they also disappeared.

Jorma Mäntylä

Illuminating night clouds were visible on 15 July. but the view was not as great as 13.7. The clouds were now mostly to the east. Jupiter shone bright in the south as the International Space Station passed it.

13.7.2021 at 01.15 - 01.30 - Kangasala, Sahalahti (IV)

Clearly visible night shining clouds

12.7.2021 at 01.20 - 02.45 - Kangasala, Sahalahti (III)
Jorma Mäntylä

The first and most handsome night cloud play in Kangasala in the summer of 2021 began immediately after the Anglo-Italian football match. The entire northern sky was full of night clouds, and there was also a clear view of the eastern sky. Panoramic images have a view to the north of about 180 degrees. The third image is facing east. EDIT 03.09: The night cloud play in Kangasala is still going on. Now to the west are clear clouds that weren’t visible an hour ago. (picture 4)

The AR2835 with its companions is the biggest sunspot of the new cycle. I filmed it at seven in the evening. It is handsome and more is promised in the future.

Partial solar eclipse

10.6.2021 at 12.50 - 15.05 - Kangasala, Sahalahti (IV)
Jorma Mäntylä

The partial solar eclipse was well visible in Sahalahti, Kangasala. Due to the cloud rafts, the sequence description was not successful, but the images had to be clicked when there were no clouds in front. Five minutes before the deepest phase, a threatening big cloud covered the Sun, but flew out of the way minutes before. At 2 p.m., in the shade of trees on the highway, sickle-like shapes could be distinguished for about 5 minutes. There did not appear to be any spots on the surface of the sun.

Several halo forms

3.5.2021 at 15.30 - 15.40 - Kangasala, Sahalahti (II)
Jorma Mäntylä

The haloshow seems to continue throughout the day, brightening and changing shape. This photo at 3:36 p.m. In Figure 2, I used image processing to try to bring out more halos. I couldn't identify all the halos.

We noticed a halo phenomenon on a morning run. I quickly grabbed a couple of pictures while we were back in the yard.

Diffuse glow

17.4.2021 at 23.15 - 23.59 - Kangasala, Sahalahti (I)
Jorma Mäntylä

If there are no years of brothers then there are not even days. As yesterday, the magnetometers of the Finnish Meteorological Institute promised northern lights. I went to the side of the forest road and waited until it froze, but showed nothing but momentary weak gauze in the north. That, too, gradually faded. In addition to the gauze, some purple rays were found in the camera images.

Aurora rays

17.4.2021 at 00.50 - 01.10 - Kangasala, Sahalahti (II)
Jorma Mäntylä

The Finnish Meteorological Institute's forecast promised northern lights on April 16, but was not visible. As the day changed, the northern sky finally began to shine. I went to the forest road with the camera. There, the sky almost shone. The show lasted half an hour. It appeared to the naked eye in black and white and slightly greenish. The images in the camera stood out with an amazingly intense purple color.

Moon

16.4.2021 at 21.30 - 21.38 - Kangasala, Sahalahti (IV)
Jorma Mäntylä

The growing crescent moon was again so pretty that I put more glass in front of the camera, this time 950mm apon. A lot of details of the Moon were found, e.g. Mare Fecunditatis and Langrenus Crater. I will include another picture with the little Olympus Pen as an extension of the 950mm apo.

Jorma Mäntylä

The narrow crescent moon, and in particular Mare Crisium, were handsomely visible with binoculars in the clear sky. I put a camera as an extension of the 600 mm apo and the sickle became a pretty picture.

Moon

27.3.2021 at 19.45 - 19.50 - Kangasala, Sahalahti (IV)
Jorma Mäntylä

Easter had to be photographed when it shone so handsome. In fact, the intention was to test the Olympus camera, and it got a pretty reasonable picture with a 600mm Apo burner.
