Half-sky auroras

23.10.2020 at 23.01 - 02.25 - Seinäjoki (IV)
Kirsi Nikkola

Kytis had to leave when a clear night happened and the gauges glowed red. It was a great show. The red northern lights for a long time and the rest were crowned by the SAR arc, which was visible from 0.01 to 1.01. Below or alongside the SAR arc in its immediate vicinity, a green guy was seen in images taken between 0.01-0.30 and again from 0.43-0.49. At times it was off or the green was further away from the SAR arc. There were also two parallel arches in the north-south direction in the sky, the color of which looked orange or yellowish gray in the pictures. In the last picture, alongside the...

Active aurora band

Kirsi Nikkola

Had to go on a show gig when BZ and density shone red despite poor predictions. The show, which began at about 9:30 p.m., was preceded by a long, long cloud sausage and covered the fires until they began to appear above the cloud. At 10.22 pm, a separate green-looking belt detached from the rest of the northern lights belt, rising across the sky towards the moon over the Milky Way. In the long exposure, a SAR arc emerged from it, which was visible for most of the time next to the green belt until then left alone in the sky for a while until 10:55 p.m. In the last stage, the light of the moon a...

Several bright halo forms

20.9.2020 at 08.21 - 09.59 - Seinäjoki (III)
Kirsi Nikkola

As I bongled the birds, one bright side arc appeared in the almost cloudless sky. Gradually came a gauze cloud in front of the sun and a beautiful halo play. The cloud mass was neither smooth nor continuous, so the sight faded in between and reappeared. Thus, for the first time, the zenith of the arc today. A small cloud suitably came in front of the sun and made the spools for a partial 22 degree ring. What a show it would have been if there had been clouds evenly throughout the sky ...

I peeked out the window as the sky pulled into the cloud. The fine main rainbow appeared double in the sky with its interference arcs. The images from the interference arc were ruined when the northern lights shooting settings were in the camera ...

Quiet aurora band

28.8.2020 at 23.30 - 03.36 - Isojoki (II)
Kirsi Nikkola

I drove to the lake to look for a place to meet. I found a small piece of sandy beach where I was able to descend from a steep beach embankment and where the pedestal and I could fit. There was wavy fog on the lake. Kuikka shouted, the shiny worm shone, the bats flew and the forest mice jumped on my toes. The northern lights were visible from 11.30pm and still when I handed over at 3.36am on 29.8. side due to fatigue and chills. Bright arches and northern lights were visible and rays in places. At 2.08-2.21, a colorful beam (green, purple, blue) wandered west-east along the arc of northern lig...

Fogbow

Kirsi Nikkola

Jiihaa. Brocken's ghost and gloria spotted for the first time in my life! I drove to photograph birds at Kurjenneva's bird wetland. There was a really thick fog that started to dissipate soon after I got there. On display was a mist that was already evaporating. I moved to the shore of the second pond east of the first place so I could get a picture of the reflections. There in the middle of the nebula, at the lower sun point, there was glory and I as Brocken’s ghost in the middle of it inside the circle. The lower part of the picture was overshadowed as I stood on the shore of the pon...

Bright night shining clouds

1.8.2020 at 00.01 - 02.40 - Seinäjoki (IV)
Kirsi Nikkola

I woke up at midnight to a nightmare and glanced out. From the window shone in the eye really clearly visible, bright illuminating night clouds, so then had to go to the night leg to chase them. Because they were more visible in the eastern sky, it was difficult to find a sufficiently open shooting location and the brightest phase began to pass after a moderate location at 1.10am. There were pink night clouds at the bottom of the clouds. After 2.30 it started to be too bright again. I stared at Neowise as well, but was not found.

One halo form

29.5.2020 at 08.54 - Lapua (I)
Kirsi Nikkola

During the birding trip, I noticed that an upper cloud indicating halos was starting to gather in the sky and I waited for the fins to eat, evolving the situation. The 22-degree ring was really bright, but was only partially visible most of the time. I would have expected a little more from the halo, but did not develop to be seen by others.

Several bright halo forms

7.3.2020 at 09.00 - 15.28 - Seinäjoki (III)
Kirsi Nikkola

I first headed to the Kyrkösjärvi rampart at the end of Bullerintie, but there was poor visibility due to the trees. There, at 9 a.m., a bright and colorful 22-degree top-side arch was visible and the camera separated a weak 22-degree tire. I moved to Kyrkösvuori and the nature trail and the cloud raft also condensed, so the halos came out better and brightened. I waited to see the arc of the zenith environment and more nice. The phenomenon is still visible (3:28 p.m.), but with the exception of the side suns and the 22-degree top-side arc, nothing else has hit the cell.

Several bright halo forms

1.3.2020 at 09.30 - 11.00 - Seinäjoki (III)
Kirsi Nikkola

There were really bright and colorful side suns visible at 9.30am when I went for a run. I picked up the camera and went for a drive to a more open place to get a picture of the whole play. During the voyage, the brightness and height of the side suns decreased considerably, but at the end, an upward-curving arch and a piece of horizon curve were visible on either side of the side suns. Accompanied by two whooper swans and a boob.

Half-sky auroras

18.2.2020 at 18.52 - 22.30 - Seinäjoki (IV)
Kirsi Nikkola

I arrived at the scene when it was still quite bright and only a few stars were visible, but already at 6.52 pm the movement of the northern lights belt was visible in the sky. Soon darkness did come and green and purple rays and gauze and arches were visible in the sky alongside Venus, filling at least half of the sky. He tried a little as a corona, but it didn't quite open. There was also a dune-like shape, but no clear laundry board pattern was visible. At times I had to go warm up at home and soon after I returned clouds and mist came to the open water as it froze.

Pearl clouds

25.1.2020 at 09.04 - 10.09 - Seinäjoki (III)
Kirsi Nikkola

I was late for the start, so the brightest colors from the Type II clouds were probably not seen. There were a lot of clouds in the whole sky at first, but the area gradually shrank and I was less than half the sky when I left. The main part was type I clouds, but a few type II clouds also appeared.

Pearl clouds

30.12.2019 at 14.00 - 15.50 - Seinäjoki (V)
Kirsi Nikkola

On the way home, I noticed type II pearl clouds above the cloud curtain and pinched on the lake shore to describe them. Type I was also a few among them. It was a show, but an icy wind. I photographed the whole and the details alternately. The color only became more intense with the setting of the sun. The lower cloud raft saved me from freezing ... In the pictures, the brightness has been reduced to make the colors stand out better.

Kirsi Nikkola

After sunset I went to the lake to see if there were still pearl clouds visible. There were small type II and a wider area of type I pearl clouds visible, which were to remain second to the power of the colors of sunset Rusko. Pearl brown was also visible.

Pearl clouds

4.12.2019 at 14.06 - 13.25 - Seinäjoki (IV)
Kirsi Nikkola

I went for a run at noon and immediately noticed that there were colorful clouds in the sky. When I got from the forest to the shore of the artificial lake, there were occasionally very colorful clouds near the sun and away from it. Personally, I interpreted them as type II pearl clouds and type I pearl clouds were also visible. The brightness of the cloud colors varied greatly. I still have to visit again at sunset to see if it still shows up.

Edit 13.3.2021: Picket fence also shown with STEVE in the first image. For some reason does not come in the search results. Edit: 4.2.2020 While looking for pictures of dunes, I came across a few suspicious images that don’t show a typical wave pattern, but the part I thought of as an arch at the time is wavy. The photos were taken on 27 August 2019 and the phenomenon was visible from 21.05 to 21.40. I nominate three new images and deleted the previous ones. Please check for the dunes. I was waiting for the northern lights and the first ones appeared before nine o'clock. The evening had si...

Quiet aurora band

31.8.2019 at 23.05 - 23.59 - Storå (II)

I set out to describe the predicted northern lights storm. As so often happens in the fall by the open water, the high cloud suddenly appeared at exactly 00.00 and completely obscured the visibility. I toured more widely in the municipality, but no clear area was visible.
