All-sky aurora

10.9.2021 at 22.15 - 00.30 - Muonio, Pallas (V)
Seija Hakala

A week's drive in northern Norway in the rain had pulled my mind low. However, when we got to the Finnish side, the sun started to shine. We spent the last night in Pallas and there was a clear night and northern lights. There was still sunset light in the sky when the northern lights appeared. As night fell, they appeared behind the fells from all sides. There was a belt, gauze and rays. Didn't know where to shoot. The disappointment of the rain disappeared while watching the fire.

A calm arc nodded in the sky until shortly before midnight was activated. It only took about 5 minutes on the screen and then dimmed into a pale gauze.

Expectations were high again as forecasts glowed red. The enthusiasm for the piquant was walked to a new place when, for once, I got across the ice to the shore of my big back. Enthusiasm dropped as an unchanging weak gauze arc stuck in the sky. Only after waiting an hour did the gauze wake up but only 5 min. continued to throw its rays then again diluted to green moss.

With high expectations, we left for the filming location as the forecasts glowed red. However, the condition display did not appear despite waiting for 2½ hours. At first there was an arc which at once disappeared into a light gauze. A few times I saw high rays, that's all. The host of Saipaha will try his new telescope while staring at the stars.

All-sky aurora

17.2.2021 at 21.38 - 23.41 - Inari (V)
Seija Hakala

On a trip to Lapland, many nights went wrong due to cloud cover and fog. Finally on Wednesday, the air became clearer and the only northern lights of the trip were photographed. They were handsome. The fires were already in the sky by the time they took the scene and there they were left flaring when the photographer had to leave his fingers in the hut.

Active aurora band

Finally a clear night and a small chance of northern lights. It has been expected. Neither frost nor heat retained inside. As soon as he arrived, there was visible movement in the sky, but the rumbling in a thick hang took time and his hands were bothered in an instant. Active activity subsided during that time, with only 3 distinct belts visible. But soon the belts began to move and gave a show that was a pleasure to watch for a long time. At 10 pm the activity subsided to a green gauze and I was happy to warm up at home.

Auroras seen through breaks in the clouds

22.11.2020 at 20.57 - 22.15 - Valkeakoski (II)
Seija Hakala

Already the view of the cracks in the clouds proved what a play was going on in the sky. Quickly, however, thick clouds then covered the entire northern sky.

Half-sky auroras

23.10.2020 at 23.03 - 00.17 - Valkeakoski (IV)
Seija Hakala

For a long time a bright night and a small chance of northern lights. The equation could not be opposed. And yes it was worth leaving. When I arrived at the scene, there was already an arc in the sky and it was good when I got to put the camera in place, it started to move. The screen lasted all the time I was there, subsided a little at times and then picked up again. Moisture and a little frost started but felt in the bones and cores so you had to leave.

After last night's northern lights had already subsided, a wider pillar rose from the west with a reddish pillar next to it. That's what I'm asking, so what was that phenomenon? #sarg

Aktiivinen revontulivyö

5.10.2020 at 21.39 - 23.33 - Valkeakoski (III)
Seija Hakala

Ihan sattumalta vilkaisin illalla revontuliennusteita ja yllätyin kun arvot olivat jo korkealla. Kunnon pimeyden tultua sitten kiivaasti matkaan. Paikalle tultua olikin jo leveä vyö paikoillaan . Puoli tuntia odoteltuamme vyö alkoikin sitten liikkua ja antoi hienon näytöksen ihan silmillä havaittaviksi. Näytöstä kesti ainakin ½ tuntia , sitten laantui leveäksi vyöksi joka ajottain hetkellisesti voimistui. Yö oli sinällään jo hieno. Aivan peilityyni ja lämmintä . Joutsenet huutelivat , sammakkokin huuteli kaveria itselleen . Lämmön takia oli erehtynyt vuodenajasta.

Yli puoli taivasta revontulia

27.9.2020 at 21.48 - 01.24 - Valkeakoski (IV)
Seija Hakala

Aurora rays

After several hours of standstill, only a two-minute weak display results. Greenish-gray fuss at other times.

Aurora rays

31.8.2020 at 22.40 - 23.30 - Kangasala (II)
Seija Hakala

I wanted to try a new location, i.e. what northern lights look like from a high lookout tower. Those when it was promised. In good time we were on the platform of the tower ready for a stunning show. Annoyed, I found that almost a full moon illuminated the entire landscape and a strong wind blew almost from the north. There were just too many lights in the country. Not a good place. Despite the predictions, the northern lights let themselves wait. The weak gauze was for a long time, only twice for a small moment it threw rays just for the eyes to see.

Diffuse glow

28.8.2020 at 22.40 - 23.55 - Valkeakoski (I)
Seija Hakala

The curves of the day foretold quite a firing. However, it then diluted annoyingly over the course of the evening. Oriented, however, I decided to leave for a leisurely evening and watch the Venetian lights on the beaches. Surprise, surprise, gauze appeared in the low sky anyway and I got when I got the first northern lights of the season.

Selvästi näkyviä yöpilviä

9.8.2020 at 00.55 - 01.20 - Valkeakoski (III)
Seija Hakala

Ei voinut vastustaa selkeää ja lämmintä , todennäköisesti viimeistä ,  kesäyötä. Ainakin kahville rantaan piti lähteä. Hetken ihailtuamme maisemaa alkoi nousta heikkoja yöpilviä. Perseidejäkin vilahteli suht tiuhaan , yksi tallentui yöpilvikuvaankin. Oli hieno yö , + 19 astetta vielä klo 1.00. Ei tarvinnut palella.

Bright night shining clouds

8.8.2020 at 00.20 - 01.30 - Valkeakoski (IV)
Seija Hakala

For me, the first night cloud observation of the summer. Then it was quite beautiful to watch. The night was probably the best of the summer, calm and warm. Nearly 20 degrees still at 1 p.m.

Quiet aurora arc

The result of a two-hour show gig. The fires were quiet, there was a company. The arch, even two, was in the sky all the time and quite high, but only a couple of times it was activated for movement. There was other life in front of it too. The ice banged as the grooves were made, the owls, foxes and swans shouted.

Active aurora band

Burning in the grip of the flu for two weeks already made me feel like going out in the fresh air. Northern lights were also promised, so hopefully we headed to the lookout. And there the arc was already waiting. Good when I got the camera in place so the arc started to move, even my poor looking friend noticed it. It was great to watch for a long time at these latitudes. It only stays and occasionally banged so that the pier shook. The movement of the arc did not last long but after waiting a while a second wave came. I still photographed it, then had to go warm.

Half-sky auroras

6.2.2020 at 22.26 - 23.54 - Inari (IV)
Seija Hakala

If the previous Northern Lights fire was disappointing, now it was compensated. We decided to shave on the ice of Lake Inari because better fires were promised. He had decided to come there with a group of others, the mess of tongues was quite a lot. For a long time the sky was completely empty. Or some weak ray came from the north. The foreigners were already disappointed. Then it started to rise directly from the east, every moment the half-sky was marked by the most special patterns, also perpendicularly above it. Woe to that cry of delight and scream that echoed on the ice of the lake. Eve...

Quiet aurora band

We spent the past week in Lapland in a decent winter. On the first clear night we headed to Kaunispää. Admittedly, the northern lights remained really calm, only a dim belt appeared for a moment. It didn't take long to freeze, the line was quite.
