Starry sky image

17.9.2021 at 02.40 - Kuusamo (III)
Voitto Pitkänen

The constellation of Orion with its fog was rising from the eastern sky at the same time as the clouds increased. The night seemed clear until then, but there must have been a bit of overcast.

One halo form

15.9.2021 at 19.40 - Kuusamo (I)
Voitto Pitkänen

About an hour after sunset, a rather handsome pillar appeared on the horizon. A blurry image of a subject on a cell phone.

Starscape image

11.9.2021 at 22.22 - Kuusamo (III)
Voitto Pitkänen

Shooting the starry sky with follow-up. Compiled from two pictures. Cloud gauze began to form from the south and the lights of Kuusamo added color to the images.

Milky way

10.9.2021 at 00.26 - Kuusamo (IV)
Voitto Pitkänen

The night was perfect for filming the Milky Way and Jupiter, for example.

Planeetan elliptinen kehä

2.9.2021 at 22.00 - Kuusamo (IV)
Voitto Pitkänen

From early night the clouds increased and the gray gauze covered the whole sky. To the southeast, a twinkle appeared from time to time, as the perimeter of Jupiter with its moon came out in a fine orange hue.

Several halo forms

2.9.2021 at 17.40 - Kuusamo (II)
Voitto Pitkänen

Observed from the studio window; side suns, horizon ring and also 22 ° upside down.

Quiet aurora arc

1.9.2021 at 00.45 - Kuusamo (II)
Voitto Pitkänen

I didn’t notice a single star flight, but the warp of the northern lights and the orbit were quite visible. By the way, it was already the darkness of the night since the last session.

Milky way

1.9.2021 at 00.30 - Kuusamo
Voitto Pitkänen

As the clouds dissipated, the sky opened in the direction of the Milky Way.

Starscape image

11.8.2021 at 23.50 - Kuusamo (III)
Voitto Pitkänen

Jupiter and Saturn to the south. More and more chips in the sky at midnight. Towards a new observation period we are already going here in the north as well.

Kuu ja Jupiter

27.7.2021 at 00.30 - Kuusamo (III)
Voitto Pitkänen

The night was cool and relatively clear. It is not yet possible to speak of twilight, but still Jupiter stood out bright from the southeast. With the exception of the moon, I have never photographed celestial bodies in July during this 11-year ‘star career’. The encounter between the Moon and Jupiter happened the same night, so this became a record of some sort.

At least 10 lightning strikes seen

18.7.2021 at 10.50 - Kuusamo (III)
Voitto Pitkänen

In the style of this summer, the thunder front arrived from the southwest direction and progressed on both sides of the observation site. I tried to shoot safely from the living room and it worked that way too.

Nähty vähintään 10 salamaa

22.6.2021 at 17.30 - Kuusamo (V)
Voitto Pitkänen

Eilisiltainen meno jatkui taaskin... ehkä hiukan vaimeampana. Mutta salamaryppäät olivat näyttäviä. Toinen kuva videolta koostettu yhdistelmä illan salamoista.

At least 10 lightning strikes seen

21.6.2021 at 18.00 - Kuusamo (V)
Voitto Pitkänen

The thunderstorm fronted southwest, westward. It was the actual play; lightning, rain and splashes. Figures 2 and 3 are composite images of the video over an hour.

Partial solar eclipse

10.6.2021 at 13.43 - 14.18 - Kuusamo (IV)
Voitto Pitkänen

The eclipse was evident from the reason for the reasonably well-varying cloud cover.

Starry sky image

10.5.2021 at 00.00 - 01.00 - Kuusamo (I)
Voitto Pitkänen

We are now living in ‘miserable times’ in terms of astronomy, at least here in the north. But when the night was especially clear I decided to try star waving. Arcturus was best seen, followed by Vega as a good second and a hint of Altair. To my surprise, in the bright northwest direction, there was also a ‘twinkle’ and in Capellahan it was there. Finally, Spica from the south. To the west the window was closed. Something might have been found there as well. Definitely my last observation this season, unless then ... Go and know.

22.4.2021 at 21.50 - Kuusamo (IV)

18.4.2021 at 23.20 - 23.40 - Kuusamo (III)
