Other special clouds

17.9.2021 at 08.21 - Helsinki (III)
Georg Kieninger

4-pronged Kelvin-Helmholtz line in the cloud hole, Helsinki's Hiatalahti. At first I thought / hoped that there would be more of them, but on the contrary (Figure 2), they disintegrated very quickly.

ISS

9.9.2021 at 04.44 - 04.49 - Berliini, Saksa (IV)
Georg Kieninger

ISS crossing in Berlin, pictured also the Federal Chancellery (light building on the right) and the Reichstag (federal parliament building - dome in the middle of the picture and the annexes to the federal parliament pictured on the left). The image consists of a total of 198 frames and is a panorama assembled from two stacks of images, which is manually a bit clumsy. For this reason, the flight path looks a bit uneven. Highest point 46 degrees, direction of travel WSW-SSW-SE, magnitude -3.5. 9/20/2021: Image changed because there was a quality error in a previously uploaded image

As an avid Skywarden tourist, I couldn’t fail to photograph the Funkturm attraction along with the ISS. Direction of travel W-SSW-SE, highest point 36 degrees, magnitude -3.0. I didn’t even get to photograph the entire flight path, in the west (pictured right) part was left out of the picture. A stack of 134 squares. Funkturm was built in 1926 as a radio mast.

The ISS crossing of the International Space Station photographed at the Brandenburg Gate (Brandenburger Tor). In addition to me, the event was followed by a city fox, which I did not get photographed, however.

Another ISS crossing over Berlin the same morning. The scene this time is a roundabout called Grosser Stern, in the middle is a 67 m high monument called Siegessäule. The highest crossing point is 59 degrees, magnitude -3.5, direction W-SSW-ESE. Stack of 228 squares.

Kuu

19.8.2021 at 22.54 - Helsinki (IV)
Georg Kieninger

Primary rainbow

19.8.2021 at 19.39 - 19.50 - Helsinki (IV)
Georg Kieninger

I thought it would look like a rainbow would appear. And no matter what, that's where it appeared, whole and in the end, the right foot of the side rainbow also came along. In the first and second picture, the foot of the rainbow is on Kuivasaari. Figure 3 shows the rainbow in its entirety.

Perseids

13.8.2021 at 00.18 - 03.04 - Helsinki (IV)
Georg Kieninger

The cloudless sky comfortably happened to the maximum night of Perseids. The images included a lot of satellites, which, however, differed well from the asses when the same satellite was in several consecutive images and the streak they generated looks different. So here are just asses.

As a by-catch of night cloud photography, I was able to describe a light phenomenon which I interpret, at least tentatively, as a fireball. Or would it be a rocket? Figure 1 is a stack of 12 squares. Right in the middle of the picture you can see a light stripe, the starting point of which was on the left side of Viiru. At its brightest it was at the very beginning, then it dimmed to brighten once more before it finally faded away. Figure 2 is a video compilation of the same 12 frames showing the horizontal passage, brightness and extinction of the light phenomenon. Duration approx. 15 seconds...

Bright night shining clouds

3.8.2021 at 23.30 - 04.00 - Helsinki (IV)
Georg Kieninger

The last night cloud play started as a modest little area at about 11.30pm north-northeast, but at midnight it became clear that this would suddenly be really awesome. So nothing more than the back of a city bike and touring the center of Helsinki as a night cloud tourist. The night clouds were really bright and of all shapes. And the show just got better as the night progressed - at least until 4am when I took the last picture of the dawn morning despite the clearly visible night clouds. The main direction was north all the time, but at about 3 o'clock the night clouds covered the whole w...

Bright night shining clouds

1.8.2021 at 23.32 - 03.45 - Helsinki (IV)
Georg Kieninger

The best bright phase was half the night on both sides. Later, large clouds always flooded in front, sometimes covering the night clouds, which were at least clearly visible almost all the time. At first, night clouds occurred from west to north, later only northwest-north. From about 3 o'clock the night clouds were no longer mocking only faintly between the norm clouds. Figure 1 was taken at 00.09. Figure 2 is a 269-frame video summary of the entire observation period. Later, another still photo with "sound irons" taken at 00.28 was added based on Pentti Arpalahti's comment.

Dim night shining clouds

24.7.2021 at 01.34 - 03.06 - Helsinki (II)
Georg Kieninger

When I last looked at the situation from the window at 1 o'clock, I thought the watercourse was coming. But no, half an hour later a small cluster of night gauze appeared in the north which, from about 2.20 am, expanded even to the northwest side while rising higher. The image is a video compilation of 126 frames for the entire review period.

Hyvin heikkoja yöpilviä

23.7.2021 at 00.53 - 01.23 - Helsinki (I)
Georg Kieninger

There were few visible night clouds for half an hour to the west. Height less than 15 degrees. The period is quite different from Pentti Arpalahti's observation, but the brightness of the city center and other factors certainly have an effect on it as well, and it was them anyway. Images 1-3 still images, image 4 video compilation of 41 frames, covers the entire period. All images cropped.
