Several halo forms

22.7.2021 at 11.10 - 11.20 - Kirkkonummi (II)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

When I tested the Raspberry Pi 4 B single-circuit computer-based all-sky fireball camera in daytime conditions and lazily in the bedroom ventilation window, I noticed that there was a pretty halo chick in the sky. The top side was quite handsome at best and there was quite a bit of a horizon ring. Too bad, because of the testing, I didn't get pictures of the best stage. And that Raspberry HQ camera module cell isn't the best for halo shooting. But here, the model is an average stack of three images believed. The stack of three images did not yet fade the clouds properly. Yes, you could...

Other storm phenomenon

22.6.2021 at 18.00 - Suomussalmi (IV)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

Let these be recorded in the Paula storm in Suomussalmi on 22 June. the damage done here. The pictures were taken on June 27. while visiting the cottage. The downpour had swept over 3 hectares of the Hunger - Wing along the road. There were storm damage in the area here and there, but this opening was the most total that I saw around the Kurkikylä in Suomussalmi. The pattern is a year ago thinned pine. The fourth picture is a few hundred meters from Hunger. There, the storm had neatly stung a group of old aspens into the stack.

Rare halos

3.5.2021 at 10.45 - 11.25 - Kirkkonummi (IV)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

For a long time a better supply in the sky. I couldn't see the parries but the Wegener there was still 46 ° with the pool sideers.

Nova V1405 Cas

30.3.2021 at 22.45 - 22.48 - Vaala (III)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

Pimeä paikka ja selkeä yö niin päätin kuvata tämän Kassiopeian novan (V1405 Cas) ilman seurantaa. Hyvin näkyy kuvissa. 10 valotusta yhdistetty Photoshopissa. Kirkkaus noin +8.0 magnitudia lähinnä kuvien perusteella. Löysin kuvasta ainakin +11.9 magnitudin tähtiä mutta käyttämäni tähtikartta loppuikin sitten siihen. Joten kuvan Lm on alle +12 magnitudia.

Several bright halo forms

11.2.2021 at 10.50 - 12.30 - Kirkkonummi (III)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

There was a hint of halos in the sky in workplace communication. Turned out to be ice mist. The crystals came from the northeast. Between telecommuting, I popped a couple of times outside to shoot the play. Faded away at times and came back. The photo below was taken at 12:12 p.m. At this point, the 46-degree ring was very clear, but previously the clear horizon ring was not visible at this point.

Several halo forms

16.1.2021 at 10.30 - 10.55 - Kirkkonummi (II)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

The lower sun and a pillar against the landscape in the morning sun. Ice mist is perhaps a bit of a misnomer for birth. The halos appeared in crystals falling from the sky. At the end of the observation, a weak 22 ring appeared in the sky as the lower sun faded. T: -14 C. Picture taken at 10:39.

Mirage

24.6.2020 at 20.30 - 20.40 - Inkoo (III)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

Above the hot day, weaving from a cargo ship in the Gulf of Finland. Images cropped.

Several halo forms

9.2.2020 at 01.51 - Vaala (II)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

The pictures of the fireball camera had been captured by a nice side play on the Moon. The halos were already visible in the pictures earlier, but at this point the side of the play was at its maximum. The maximum lasted a few minutes. The pictures are so-called. sum pictures (Peak hold) for about 2 seconds. That is, practically a bit like a 2-second time exposure except that only the highest brightness of the image pixel is recorded in the image.

A fireball at night, as bright as a cresent moon

26.12.2019 at 23.43 - Vaala (IV)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

A snapshot of a long-lasting fireball on the day of Tapan's Day taken by the Vaala fireball camera. In the video, the fireball has a duration of 36.92 seconds. The fireball is initially hidden behind the trees and video recording has been interrupted while the fireball is still visible. So the actual duration of the fireball was over 37 seconds. During the flight, the main body is followed by at least 7 smaller pieces that are left behind and turn off in turn. At the top of the picture is an airplane on the London-Tokyo route.

Pearl clouds

1.12.2019 at 15.00 - 15.30 - Vaala (IV)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

For a long time decent pearls. Not very colorful, but in the dim sky already a great sight. I stopped to shoot at the marshland. Even when it is possible. A few years and there may be more than 200 meters of wind power in the picture ...

Fogbow

1.2.2019 at 12.15 - Kajaani (II)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

Fog in the frost. Temperature -21 ° C. A cloud was created by a district heating plant. The first image is a slightly processed image so that the fog arc is even visible somehow. Image 2 is the same image unprocessed. The image is cropped from the original.

Bright night shining clouds

15.8.2018 at 02.19 - Kajaani (IV)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

In the north, there were rather bright illuminating night clouds. There were also some lower clouds in the sky. Illuminating night clouds were already visible just after midnight. At this point, there were nicely lower clouds in the sky above them and I took a series of pictures from my front door. I compiled the attached HDR image from the four images in the series to better capture the surrounding images without exposing the illuminating night clouds.

Partial solar eclipse

11.8.2018 at 11.35 - 13.00 - Kajaani (IV)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

This midday partial eclipse was favored by a cloudless clear sky. The only thing that required a moment's thought was to find a windbreak for shooting. A little pity that no sunspots stood out to adorn the pictures. Figure 1 was taken with a Nikon D7000 at 12:20:51 and Figure 2 with a Coolpix P610 at 12:18:00. That is, the images are from the maximum stage. Times corrected to match official time. The images have been cropped and slightly processed.

Total lunar eclipse

27.7.2018 at 22.20 - 01.45 - Kajaani (IV)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

For once, great weather if the wind isn’t down. Heat just over twenty degrees at the beginning and no sprouts from which thanks to the wind. The weak cloud material was separable in the direction of the horizon but not disturbingly thick and otherwise there was a clear sky. But the sky was too light at first. The dim, completely darkened moon refused to appear even though it must have been well above the horizon. Vega and Deneb were already visible. The opposite shore in the direction of which the eclipse takes place is three kils away, so the moon was not left behind the trees. After the maxi...

Anticrepuscular rays

27.6.2018 at 00.40 - 00.50 - Suomussalmi (III)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

Whether it was pretty twilight rays with the shadow of the earth and the moon. The observation site was still crowned by the same ones as seen from a calm pond. Describes a slightly cropped, hint of blurry mask and a bit of brightness adjustment. PS. I know that there is also a shadow of the earth in the picture and a good one. But if I tick the shadow of the Earth for more information, then the title of the observation will foolishly become the shadow of the Earth, and the actual object of the observation was not the rarer twilight rays.

Ground level vortex

24.5.2018 at 10.17 - Valtimo (III)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

I came to a small field opening at Valtimo ABC from Kajaani when, at the intersection of a gas station, less than 10 meters in front of the front of my car, a road-wide dust vortex arose. I didn’t have time to do anything when I was already inside it. The vortex swayed the car surprisingly strongly from side to side and I heard sand and slightly larger chips hit the car's dampers. Among them, one clearly larger stone. The vortex continued along the road to the service station and grew to a height of perhaps 20 meters for a moment. I immediately stopped at the next bus stop which was thankf...

Kangastus

13.5.2018 at 17.30 - 18.15 - Vaala (IV)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

Tire rings and tidal waves ... Or at least that's how I would describe these slightly strange and fast-moving fabrics in Lake Oulujärvi today. Although a lot of canvases have been seen and photographed, these have not been received before. On the other hand, it has been less common to have been in almost calm heat (T approx. 22-24 ° C) by an icy lake. These rings and waves moved at a pretty good pace from left to right. The tires usually opened after some distance. The wave did indeed look like a propagating wave. I also filmed these in the video. The video can be found at this link on You...

Total lunar eclipse

31.1.2018 at 15.55 - 17.15 - Kajaani (IV)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

The perfect phase was left in the low clouds. However, even before the clouds receded, a partially partially darkened moon appeared at 4:19 p.m. I then described the phase of the full shadow retreat. In the beginning, I took a few more scenic pictures. A short pillar stump was also visible. Image times. Figure 1 at 4:32 p.m. Figure 2 at 4:35 p.m. Figure 3 at 4:47 p.m. Figure 4 at 5:11 p.m.

Fogbow

11.1.2018 at 06.47 - Vaala (III)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

Frost mist. The fireball camera was apparently caught by a fog arc created by the truck's high beams. As the light source moved, so did the fog arc. The inner edge of the legal point of the arc is about 42 ° and since the car has been almost on the horizon, that is also the radius of the fog arc. The air temperature at the nearest Vaala Pelson weather station was about -10.5 ° C and the humidity 90%. Image 1 is a single frame from the video. Image 2 is a summary image stored by the UFOCapture program of the fireball camera. Here, the roar of car lights sweeping the sky blurs the fog arc to...
