Active aurora band

27.9.2019 at 21.27 - 21.51 - Lempäälä (III)
Tanja Meronen

At your request, I will still send pictures of Steve on September 27, 2019. In Pori, we spotted a white, lively, cross-striped arch by the sea. At first we didn’t even realize it was Northern Lights. It took minutes before we started filming it. At the edges of the reddened Steven, green, loose rays are also visible in the two images. The first of those pictures is at 9.29.57 and the last at 21.49.22.

Green rays emanated from Steve's arc, which also stood out to the naked eye. It looked great!

Yli puoli taivasta revontulia

27.9.2019 at 22.15 - 23.00 - Eurajoki, Luvia (IV)

Ilmeises...

Aktiivinen revontulivyö

27.9.2019 at 22.20 - 01.55 - Kirkkonummi (III)
Katri Kuparinen

Auroras seen through breaks in the clouds

27.9.2019 at 22.00 - 00.25 - Taipalsaari (II)
Terhi Törmälä

I left the coffin a little late and annoyed the arc of northern lights visible almost all the way (on the way from Lappeenranta to Taipalsaari) because when we got to Sarviniemi, the northern sky was almost in a cloud. Sometimes it would not be worthwhile to go further out to sea to fish .. I photographed for a couple of hours, hoping the sky would clear up, because then that place I chose is the most amazing for northern lights photography. So dark enough. I photographed in slightly different directions and how something was starting to take shape among the clouds. Was it STEVE? And yes, it w...

Revontulisäteitä

27.9.2019 at 22.30 - 01.30 - Loimaa, Alastaro (II)
Jukka Kytömäki

Upeat ja pitkäkestoiset revontulet Alastaron moottoriradan lähellä. Sumu haittasi ajoittain ja linssiä huurteeseen. Harmi, että liukukisko ei ollut mukana reissussa. Ajoittain hyvinkin eläväiset ja värikkäät.

Aurora rays

27.9.2019 at 22.29 - 22.39 - Kouvola (II)
Mika Yrjölä, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

I was visiting Kouvola for a weekend village and kept an eye on the sky just in case the northern lights had been promised and the sky was clear contrary to forecasts. In the north direction I did not see the northern lights when I was outside, but the orphaned beam roughly in the northwest direction caught my eye. The tripod was not included, so I improvised a bit and carefully placed the camera on the support post of the Kouvola racetrack fence, when I just reached for it. Unfortunately, Steven apparently missed it. In hindsight, a certain person could have taken a couple of pictures with th...

Aurora rays

27.9.2019 at 22.15 - 22.53 - Kangasala (II)
Juha Kuitunen

There appeared to be isolated reddish or pink showers on the west side of the normal, mostly green northern lights. This is probably Steve's arch. The phenomenon was visible for more than half an hour. A calm arc of northern lights was visible on the northern horizon as early as 10pm when I arrived. From time to time, the northern lights activated and rose higher, causing the camera to distinguish colors other than green. The colors did not separate with the naked eye. 28.9. after 1 p.m., I noticed fast, about 1-second heart rate-propagating "waves" that rose high.

Half-sky auroras

27.9.2019 at 21.00 - 02.00 - Oulu, Oulunsalo (IV)
Marko Haapala

Friday night finally blurred enough for the northern lights to start to appear and almost immediately there was one bright show and far enough away from the perspective of the landscape in terms of filming. Then it was a bit quieter even though the camera did record whatever. The southern sky was also kept in mind, albeit a slightly challenging shooting direction, at the base with the lights on. There was some dim accordion there and the pictures grabbed next to the Milky Way. As the day changed, Korona finally appeared over her head for a moment. It took 10 hours of outdoor activities and a c...

Quiet aurora band

27.9.2019 at 21.00 - 02.00 - Pori (II)
Mikko Lönnberg

Finally, the northern lights forecast coincided with a cloudless sky and it was a long time it was necessary to go out and go. I got a few good pictures of the fire and I guess I also had my first pictures of that Steve arch, it's a pity when I was just changing places when that arch was at its peak and I only got to shoot the last moments of it, but a small tactile flight hit that one picture.

Aktiivinen revontulivyö

27.9.2019 at 22.38 - 01.30 - Lahti (III)
Kirsi Volanen

Huomasin  läntisellä  taivaalla  revontulia.  Pohjoisessa näytti olevan hiljaiseloa.      Harvemmin  ensi havainto tulee  muualta kuin pohjoisen suunnalta.  Otin kameran   ja  kävelin rantaan.   Seurakunnan  leiripaikan valot loistivat kirkkaana  järven toisella puolella.

Aurora rays

27.9.2019 at 22.34 - 22.43 - Espoo (II)
Mika Turdén, Ursa (Helsinki)

When I arrived at the observation site, the fires were calm. In the northwest, I noticed a dim bundle of opaque rays that have since been confirmed to function as a Steve arc and the associated “picket fence” structure. I did not see the actual long curve at my observation site due to light pollution and terrain obstacles.

Aurora rays

Petri Kangasniemi

The northern lights calmed down for a moment and I noticed something in the west facing the sky. I turned the camera in that direction, knowing it could look better. That kind of thing then started to form from there, and based on observations from elsewhere, I guess it turned into Steve. The first observation of such a phenomenon for the signatory was, after all, a rather tense revelation. All images with Canon 80D + Samyang 10mm f / 2.8.

Edit 13.3.2021: Picket fence also shown with STEVE in the first image. For some reason does not come in the search results. Edit: 4.2.2020 While looking for pictures of dunes, I came across a few suspicious images that don’t show a typical wave pattern, but the part I thought of as an arch at the time is wavy. The photos were taken on 27 August 2019 and the phenomenon was visible from 21.05 to 21.40. I nominate three new images and deleted the previous ones. Please check for the dunes. I was waiting for the northern lights and the first ones appeared before nine o'clock. The evening had si...

Aktiivinen revontulivyö

27.9.2019 at 23.00 - 02.30 - Inkoo, Kopparnäs (III)
Ulla Vornanen

Lauantai-sunnuntaiyön reposjahti pääkaupunkiseudulla alkoi Kopparnäsistä, jossa alkuun revontulia näkyi vain pilviraoista. Tilannetta korjasi länsitaivaalla näkynyt steve (kuva 1, klo 23.06). Ihme kyllä pilvipeite hajosi melko nopeasti ja puolen yön kohdalle osui tämän retken aktiivisin revontulinäytös (kuva 2, klo 00.05). Tämän jäkeen siirtyminen Oittaalle, jossa jälleen revontulet näkyivät alkuun vain pilviraoista. Pilvipeite oli kuitenkin painumassa poispäin ja näin revontulet alkoivat hiljaleen tulla esiin pilven takaa (kuva 3, klo 1.53). Kohtuullisen aktiivisena Oittaalla esiin tullut rev...

Rauhallinen revontulikaari

STEVE arc. Watching the calm arc of northern lights in the northern sky, I noticed that the pale "clouds" were drifting at a brisk pace in the sky at an angle of about 30 to 40 degrees, probably 10 min. they went there until I woke up to how bright those "clouds" were, as the Northern Lights did. That's right, but I think they packed in the same tight pile so the brightness increased. (this is how it looked from my point of view) One image shows how the vertical rays differ from each other (exposure 1s.) Propagates from right to left, in another image a bright pillar is formed until finall...
