Half-sky auroras

6.12.2021 at 01.00 - 02.00 - Salla (IV)
Dennis Lehtonen

Curves and northern lights cameras watched along the evening. At times I even took a look at the situation and there have been hours of fire, but very little interest in going out with the camera. In it, a little after midnight, the arches started to get more height so I went out to the lake 500m away to wait for their brightening. And it didn't take long for it to brighten up, but after a few minutes it was already dim. At best, they covered perhaps 80% of the sky. I took some selfies, I just can't decide what I like the most.

Light pillars

Mikko Peussa, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

At first it seemed that no ice crystal formed in the air. However, I looked out of the balcony in the direction of Naantali and there seemed to be some fog low. So I defied the 18-degree frost and went to check on the situation. There was a lot of ice crystal there and the next challenge was to find the shooting locations. I would cycle around the area already desperately when I couldn’t get into the closed areas. Eventually I moved on to the Natural Land side and was pretty fascinated by the views. The pillars were beautiful and the constellations still shone in the sky. I picked up my finger...

The left side sun was visible at 1:55 p.m., and the sun pillar at 2:35 p.m. I didn't notice anything else. It was -17-18 degrees below zero.

Fortunately, the sky turned out to be the best when the northern lights started appearing in the sky for a couple of hours.

One halo form

4.12.2021 at 11.00 - 13.00 - Juva (I)
Petri Martikainen, Ursa (Itä-Suomi)

Bright sunny day and frost crumbs 15-20 degrees. In this village, a sun column was visible almost all day, which I suppose came from the snow cannons of Hasamäe, because the wind was blowing from there. Elsewhere it was not visible. I also went to Hasamäki to check on the situation, but the mists evaporated to a non-existent distance of a few hundred meters and did not cause any halos. No other shapes were found in the stacks either, so here’s just this one picture.

A fireball at night, brighter than the venus

5.12.2021 at 17.30 - Alavus (III)
Jukka Koivisto, Suomenselän Pegasus

As I drove, I noticed a fireball in front of me. Slightly brighter than Jupiter. It progressed in the southern sky towards the southwestern horizon. Progress was quite slow as the car camera video shows its first appearance at 17:30:43 and the last glance at 17:30:49. It went annoyingly behind the tops of the trees and I couldn't push it all the time while driving. It just disappeared behind the trees near the horizon, I didn’t see any glare or flashes. Pictured is the first view in the camera.

A fireball at night, brighter than the venus

5.12.2021 at 17.30 - Raisio (III)
Mika Saarinen

I was on the ramp after turning from the Hauninen crossroads in the direction of the center of Raisio when I saw a greenish fireball appearing from the top, finally traveling west. It was visible for about 7 seconds with brightness initially varying back and forth until it faded out of sight. I got a video with the dashboard camera with a clip attached, although the recording on the screen seemed to drop the quality, the original was better but it shows the registration numbers so I don't really bother to make it public here. According to the OSMCompass website, the compass direction of th...

That's where Venus peeks out for a long time. It was 15 degrees below zero, so it didn't bother to climb up to Paloheinä hill. But brightly Venus between the trees shines. Jupiter on the left and shy Saturn in the middle. Well demonstrate the orbital plane of the planets. #bongaa100 (solar plane orbit, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn)

This galaxy seemed to have a beautiful dense spiral structure visible directly from above. The destination is perhaps one of the best in the constellation, which is otherwise not particularly well known for its spectacular DS destinations.

Comet C / 2021 A1 (Leonard) is relatively close to Earth at 0.42 AU and moves very fast relative to the stars. The attached 15x30s = 7.5min exposed L / Clear filter images show only a portion (less than 1 °) of the comet's long tail, which consists of several rapidly changing fan-shaped structures. A lot was expected from the opening wind, but little was given. In the figure, the diffuse arc of the moment when the z-component of the magnetic field of the grid agreed to sink below zero for a moment. The starry sky was unparalleled.
